Cocoa production is relatively small in Tanzania. However, through several value chain programs, production in on the rise, and more farmers have started to depend on it for their livelihoods. Cocoa farmers in Tanzania do not use chemical inputs and fertilizers as costs often exceed benefits. TechnoServe saw this as an opportunity to promote and scale organic production in the region to create more added value and help farmer access organic premiums. Vuna was hired to support Technoserve in developing a new organic inputs supply chain for their cocoa program in Southern Tanzania. Vuna carried out a supply chain assessment, soil analysis and organic input strategy for over 10 cocoa primary societies and their members.
